Suction Assisted Laryngoscopy Airway Decontamination (SALAD)

Learning Objectives:

1.  Recognize the presence of airway contaminant and exercise a proper response to airway decontamination.

2.  Learn and utilize the Suction-Assisted Laryngoscopy Airway Decontamination (SALAD) Method of cooperative use of the rigid suction catheter with the laryngoscope to decontaminate the simulated airway contaminant (SAC) and secure the airway.

3.  Learn the advantages of flow limited resuscitator in recognizing airway contaminant during face mask ventilation

4.  Learn and demonstrate the Suction-Assisted Airway Catheter Insertion method of airway decontamination, bougie (airway catheter) delivery using the suction catheter as delivery guide, and tracheal intubation during continuous airway decontamination using methods from the SALAD technique.
